Handicams are valuable tools in human rights work, but they can also be used for nefarious purposes. This affordable, accessible technology has been used by right-wing militia groups to make training videos, by cults like Heaven's Gate, and by terrorists to record their missions and recruit new members.
Think how skillfully Osama Bin Laden has used a camcorder to make his case. He always looks in control and lording it over wherever he is. All that has been achieved by being pretty good at performing for a camcorder.
